One of our 61ers, Wilson Tang is a 2013 Hall Of Fame Inductee of the America Society of Civil Engineers with the ASCE OTC Hall Of Fame. He will be honored and inducted to the Hall Of Fame at the 2013 ASCE OTC Hall OfFame Gala Dinner on May 7, 2013 in Houston, Texas.

The Gala honors the authors of extraordinary papers presented in the early years of OTC which now form the core of current practice worldwide. Wilson’s Offshore Technology Conference paper “Performance Reliability of Offshore Piles” was presented in 1990.

    To all:

I was in the same classes with Wilson from 1958 to 1961 and in all the science subjects he was always the best and I saw him off on the President Liner to pursuit his study in the States where he did great research in Civil Engineering which he continued while back in Hong Kong in University of Science & Technology. Unfortunately his productive life was cut short by his illness; but during that trying time he always maintained a positive and optimistic view of life.

Wilson deserved this great honour. It is indeed the honour and fortune of all the LSC61ers to have been his friend and shared many happy moments with him. His work will benefit the future and he will live on in our memory.

Dr. Tang’s life and achievement is a credit to La Salle and a role model for all aspiring young people near and afar. Although I did not have the opportunity to be in any class with him back in Hong Kong, I believe I spoke with him briefly at the 75th Jubilee in 2007.

That is great news, Bernadette, and I am sure everyone of us are very honoured to be a classmate of Wilson. He has always been a very smart and nice person ever since we were kids.
I still remember the day I saw him off to the States and when he visited me in Montreal.

I am also very proud to be in the LSC Class of 1961. Wilson and I were in the same classes from Form 4 to Form 6.

I also remember that my brother Valiant Lai and I left Hong Kong on the same ship (the USS President Cleveland) with Wilson Tang Hong Chung and we arrived in San Francisco in September 1962.
